NIISQ Background

The National Injury Insurance Scheme Queensland (NIISQ) was established by the Queensland Government to provide necessary and reasonable lifetime treatment, care, and support to people who sustain eligible serious personal injuries in motor vehicle accidents in Queensland. The scheme ensures that individuals with significant injuries receive the support they need without having to prove fault, aiming to enhance their quality of life and promote recovery.

For eligible individuals, the NIISQ offers consistent and equitable access to services. The core principle of the NIISQ is to support participants in exercising choice and control when making decisions about their care. Participants are at the centre of the process, selecting the supports that are reasonable and necessary to help them achieve and maintain their goals. Goals may include greater independence, community involvement, employment, and improved well-being. The participant is always in control, making the decisions that best suit their needs and aspirations.
