What is support coordination?
The primary role of a support coordinator is to discuss all available and practical supports options to their clients to ensure that each individual has control and a choice in the supports that they receive. Support coordinators also provide their recommendations on support options and which they believe would be best for their client based on each individuals’ circumstances and preferences.

Support coordination is a useful source to help you to best utilise your support plan. Support coordinators can hep you to:
– Understand and use your National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) plan
– Connect you to the NDIS providers, government services and community that best suit your needs
– Help you to build confidence and the skills to manage and coordinate your supports.
How does NDIS support coordination funding work?
The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) have three types of support coordination included within their funding that may be included in your plan. These include:
Support Connection
The basic level of support coordination. This is a short-term support service that has been designed to help individuals connect with service providers. This support is generally provided to NDIS participants that have lower level care needs.
Support Coordination
Otherwise referred to as coordination of supports, this level of support helps individuals to build skills needed to help understand, implement and how to use their NDIS plan. On this level of support, support coordinators help you to develop your understanding of your plan under the NIDS, offering advice and support to help you to make decisions about the supports that you use. Support Coordinators will also help connect you with your chosen service providers and help to navigate any relationship issues with your supports.
Specialist Support Coordination
This level of support coordination under the NDIS is designed for individuals that have difficult circumstances or complex needs – helping to assist NDIS participants that have barriers to accessing the supports that they need. Highly trained and specialist support coordinators help individuals to access supports by reducing barriers and complexities.
